“The Snow-White Heart”

“Cut out her heart and bring it to me,” the queen said, and so the huntsman did.

Given the title and that opening line, those of you familiar with fairy tales can probably guess which one this story is twisting. You can also guess it isn’t going anywhere good.

As has become tradition for these stories, my soundtrack music for it was “Libera Me,” the opening track of the score from Interview with the Vampire.

The story came out in Talebones #39 (the magazine’s final issue), and was one of three audio pieces bundled in Pseudopod‘s Flash on the Borderlands V. It was also reprinted in my collection Monstrous Beauty, the October 2019 issue of Flash Fiction Online, and the March 2021 issue of Frozen Wavelets.
