“Everything comes to an end someday. That’s what this place is for. But it doesn’t make the end hurt any less.”

Speaking of ends, the last couple of lines sort of fall flat, but hey — this is a first draft. I can always fix that later.

Three short stories in three weeks, and I finished this one well in advance of the wedding I’m going to tonight. Yay me! Now I just need to figure out what I’m doing for the fourth and final week. “Kingspeaker”? “The Unquiet Grave”? Nothing involving research, and bonus points if it isn’t over 6K like this one was. We’ll see what comes to mind.

    Hey

Bryn, your writing output continues to impress me; you write a LOT. Your remind me a bit of P. K. Dick in the way you can turn out stories (of course, he was a speed-freak for many years). I suppose some people just have more neurotransmitters than others. 😉

      Re: Hey

To be fair, I’m being unusually productive right now; I haven’t written many short stories at all in the last year or so, hence the pact with my friend to write four in four weeks. We both need new things on the market.

        Re: Hey

I may be misremembering, but didn’t you write WARRIOR AND WITCH over the course of summer last? Did you actually complete the whole thing in c. 3 months? I’d sell my soul to be able to write that fast; I write well, but never fast; and it takes me forever to get anything done.

Any deities/supernatural entities out there willing to make me a deal? 🙂

          Re: Hey

Okay, true enough. <g> Not something I think I care to repeat in the near future, though; I can do that well enough when a book’s been composting in my head for a while, but that one was too new of an idea for me to easily write it in so short a time.

            Re: Hey

Three months for a full-length book isn’t a feat I could duplicate, even if I had a truckload of Dick’s Benzedrine; I could write perhaps a quarter of a novel in that time. I have a lazy streak in me, I guess, even when it comes to stuff I love.

I look forward to reading WARRIOR AND WITCH. (BTW, how long was the writing of DOPPELGANGER?)

            Re: Hey

Not positive how long that one took, since I fiddled around with it for quite some time before sitting down and knocking the rest out. The latter stage was, again, about three months or so (I tended, and still tend, to use my summers for novel-writing), but I’d written a decent chunk of it prior to that.
