the slow creep upward

Just noticed that as of last night’s revision, With Fate Conspire is officially the longest Onyx Court novel. (144K and counting.)

I’m hoping the damn thing doesn’t hit 150K before I’m done, but given the big honking change I’m thinking of putting in, I wouldn’t bet the farm on that.

    Um…wow. *long book is long*

There’s been upward creep through the series. Midnight Never Come probably would have benefited from being longer, except back then I was still trying to keep it to the length of my previous books.

I suspect it will rock whatever length it is.

oh dear. we editors dread having authors like you. (in a loving way. loving dread.)

foment the revolution! bring back the meaty book!

I think it’s because they’re historical fiction, as well as fantasy; that’s a lot of setting that has to be worked in, via plot and such. I’m hoping to do YA someday, where I can write a 60K book if I want to (and right now, I very much do).

I’m hoping you write YA someday, too. That plan you told me about on the Sirens shuttle sounded AWESOME.
