“Thought and Memory”

Due to the internet’s regrettable tendency to repost images without attribution, I can’t properly credit the artist whose work inspired this poem. I can only tell you their picture showed a man brandishing a staff at a giant skull in the sky while black birds flocked around. The birds made me think of Odin’s ravens Hugin and Munin — Thought and Memory — and then somehow that slewed around to become a metaphor about anxiety? And then I wrote it all as fornyrðislag, a particular type of Old Norse alliterative verse.

The result has been purchased by Old Moon, and I will update here when it’s out!
