“Hallucination”

Poetry is apparently where I go to be angry about current issues. Those things rarely inform my fiction directly — instead they feed in along more oblique lines — but I’ve written more than a few poems inspired by my daily frustrations.

This one, as you might guess from the title, is about the crap being peddled to us as “AI.” I was a little hesitant about writing it because it kind of buys into the notion of those algorithms having some kind of sentience, but ultimately the message was one I liked enough that I went ahead and did it. And I’m glad I did, as Merganser Magazine has published the result! It is free to read online.
